Hollywood sci-fi ‘Dune’ distorts Iran, Islam

New Hollywood flick ‘Dune’ seemingly distorts the image of Islam and Iran.

New Hollywood flick ‘Dune’ seemingly distorts the image of Islam and Iran, misrepresenting the noble and religious concept of the “Promised Savior of Mankind” known as Imam Mahdi in Islam.

The big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s bestseller of the same name directed by Denis Villeneuve has recently stirred up controversy with clear references to internationally renowned Iranian poet Hafez’s honorific, Lisan al-Gaib.

The characters depicted as lesser beings in the flick also referred to the so-called hero of the ‘Dune’ as Mahdi who is the name of the twelfth Shia Imam and the “Promised Savior of Mankind”.

“With this movie, they target both #Iran and #Islam,” a tweet reads about the movie.

Even without a critical eye, the occurrence of such names in the film nabbing good takings at the North American box office is too much of a coincidence.
